Express Highway Bus

How to Get to Kawaguchiko Station by Highway Express Bus

The highway bus is generally the cheapest option and offers frequent, direct service from Tokyo's major hubs.

1. Essential Information & Booking

  • Operator: Services are mainly run by Fujikyu Bus and Keio Bus.

  • Cost: ≈¥2,000 - ¥2,200 one-way from all three major departure points.

  • Booking: Crucial - buses frequently sell out, especially on weekends and holidays.

    • Book Online: Use the main Japanese Highway Bus reservation site (highway-buses.jp) or booking agents like Klook.

    • Book In-Person: At the bus terminals (Shinjuku, Tokyo Station, Shibuya Mark City).

  • Caution: Travel time is heavily dependent on traffic, which can be severe on weekends (especially the return trip to Tokyo).

  • Visit a reservation website (e.g., Highway-Buses.jp) and select your origin (Shinjuku, Tokyo, or Shibuya) and destination (Kawaguchiko Station).

  • Complete the booking and payment. You will receive a confirmation with your bus number, departure time, and platform.

Step 2: Navigate to the Bus Terminal

  • Arrive at your chosen terminal at least 20 minutes before departure.

  • For Shinjuku (Busta Shinjuku): Follow signs to the South Exit, then take the lift or escalator up to the 4th floor Bus Terminal. Check the screens for your Bus Number and Platform.

  • For Tokyo Station: Locate the bus stop near the Yaesu South Exit or the Tekko Building (check your ticket for the exact stop).

  • For Shibuya: Head to the 5th floor of the Shibuya Mark City building.

Step 3: Check-In and Board the Bus

  • Show your ticket (digital or printed) to the staff or check in at the counter if required.

  • The driver/attendant will check your ticket and load large luggage into the storage compartment under the bus.

  • Board the bus and find your assigned seat. Most highway buses have a restroom onboard.

Step 4: Arrive at Kawaguchiko Station

  • The bus will stop at Fuji-Q Highland and sometimes Fujisan Station before reaching the final stop: Kawaguchiko Station.

  • Collect your luggage from the compartment, and you are ready to start your Mt. Fuji tour!
