How to Get to Kawaguchiko Station by Local Trains (The Budget Route, Your last resort)

 

This route requires a change of trains at Otsuki Station as you switch from the JR line (Japan Railways) to the private Fujikyu Railway Line.

 

1. From Shinjuku Station

Step-by-Step Tutorial (Shinjuku)

  1. At Shinjuku Station (JR):

    • Purchase a ticket or use an IC card (Suica/Pasmo) for the JR Chuo Line Rapid or Local train headed toward Otsuki (or sometimes Takao/Hachioji, requiring another intermediate transfer).

    • Board the JR train.

  2. At Otsuki Station (Transfer):

    • Get off the JR train.

    • Look for the ticket gate/platform for the Fujikyu Railway Line.

    • Crucial: You must pay the fare for the private Fujikyu Line. You can use your IC card (Suica/Pasmo is accepted on the Fujikyu line) or buy a separate paper ticket from the Fujikyu ticket counter.

    • Board the local train destined for Kawaguchiko.

  3. Arrive at Kawaguchiko Station:

    • Kawaguchiko is the final stop. Exit the station.

  1. At Tokyo Station (JR):

    • Purchase a ticket or use an IC card (Suica/Pasmo) for the JR Chuo Line Rapid train headed toward Otsuki (usually via Shinjuku, often marked as a train for Takao or Ome, requiring a second transfer).

    • Board the JR train.

  2. At Otsuki Station (Transfer):

    • The transfer process is the same as the Shinjuku route.

    • Locate the Fujikyu Railway Line platform. Pay the Fujikyu fare (≈¥1,170) using an IC card or a paper ticket.

    • Board the local train destined for Kawaguchiko.

  3. Arrive at Kawaguchiko Station:

    • Kawaguchiko is the final stop. Exit the station.
