The Road to Kawaguchiko
From your Hakone ryokan to Kawaguchiko — skip the transfers, turn your travel day into a journey.
Why This Tour Exists
The Road to Kawaguchiko is a private 4-hour guided journey from Hakone to Kawaguchiko — door-to-door, in a single seamless trip, with no transfers required.
Hakone and Kawaguchiko are two of Japan's most iconic destinations — yet getting from one to the other is surprisingly difficult.
The "official" route involves a bus to Gotemba, a transfer to another bus or train, and often a long wait in between — all while managing luggage, language barriers, and tight ryokan check-in windows.
So we built something different.
The Road to Kawaguchiko is a fully guided 4-hour private journey that takes you through panoramic Fuji viewpoints, sacred springs, and historic shrines between the two regions. By the time you arrive in Kawaguchiko, you won't just have transferred — you'll have begun to understand the mountain you've come to see.
How We Do It
-
A 4-Hour Private Journey, Door to Door:
While the standard route requires multiple transfers at Gotemba, The Road to Kawaguchiko connects the two regions in a single seamless journey — picking you up at your Hakone accommodation and dropping you off directly at your Kawaguchiko hotel.
-
Bridging Two Worlds:
This route is designed to connect the Volcanic Caldera of Hakone with the Alpine Basin of Mt. Fuji. We begin at Otome Parking — your first proper view of Mt. Fuji, where we read the mountain together: its scale, its geology, and its place in Japanese culture. We pause for a local bite — a hearty soba lunch at Fukunoya, or tea and wagashi at Toraya Kobo, your call — before continuing into the Fuji Five Lakes region.
Depending on the weather, we then choose between two iconic stops: Chureito Pagoda for one of the most photographed Mt. Fuji views in existence, or Oshino Hakkai — eight sacred springs fed by snowmelt from Fuji's peak. We finish at Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine, the historic gateway where pilgrims have begun their ascent of Mt. Fuji for centuries. From there, it's a short drive to Kawaguchiko — and by then, the mountain will already feel familiar.
